Horizon Theatre Company is “Ready and Able”, thanks to funding from Canterbury League Club through the Club Grants scheme.
The READY AND ABLE project aims to provide access to creative and recreational activities for young people living with a disability in the Canterbury local government area. The project acknowledges the culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds of participants. Horizon will stage performances including drama and puppetry for the young people living with a disability. Furthermore, the theatre will run workshops in drama, music, costume & make-up, puppetry and photography. Participants will be matched to activities based on their individual talents, abilities and inclinations.
Currently working out of the amphitheatre at Wiley Park, Horizon Theatre Company Ltd was established with the clear aim of developing a world-class repertory theatre company in Sydney’s west and beyond. We are dedicated to enhancing artistic, cultural and economic opportunities for a diverse background of marginalised young people and theatre practitioners whilst developing participation and a large audience. Horizon is a pioneer in arts-based strategies and aims to continue to provide regular arts-based and innovative intervention programs to equip young participants with alternative methods for early intervention and crime prevention. Finally, Horizon is a drop-in facility helping improve the self-esteem, communication, teamwork skills and creativity of our community.
Horizon works closely with many organizations that support people with disabilities and have seen the positive response from carers and the participants towards the activities they have been involved in at the Theatre. The Theatre is grateful for the opportunity to offer artistic workshops and performances to people living with a disability in the Canterbury area.
